August brings lower prices in European electricity markets thanks to lower demand and gas at annual lows
In August, prices in the main European electricity markets fell compared to July, with most monthly averages dropping below €75/MWh. The fall in electricity demand, together with TTF gas prices reaching their lowest monthly level since August 2024, contributed to these declines. Solar photovoltaic energy production, although generally lower than in July, was the second highest in their history in Germany and Portugal, while wind energy production also decreased compared to July.

European electricity market prices fall in the third week of August due to lower demand after the heat wave and higher wind energy production
In the third week of August, weekly prices in most major European electricity markets were lower than the previous week. The end of the heat wave that affected part of Europe led to a drop in electricity demand, which, together with higher wind energy production in most markets, contributed to the price decline.

Increased demand due to the heat wave drives up prices in European electricity markets in the second week of August
In the week of August 11, Germany and France set records for solar photovoltaic energy production. Wind energy generation increased in Portugal and France, while in Germany, Italy and Spain it decreased. Electricity demand grew in most European markets, as a result of higher temperatures, which drove up prices in European electricity markets. TTF gas futures reached their lowest levels since July 2024.

European electricity markets start August with more photovoltaic energy, less demand and lower prices
In the first week of August, photovoltaic energy production grew in most major European electricity markets, particularly in Germany and Italy. Wind energy generation showed widespread declines, with the Iberian Peninsula registering the largest drops. Electricity demand decreased in several markets, except in Belgium and Spain. Electricity prices fell due to higher solar energy production and lower gas and CO2 prices.

European electricity market prices fall at the end of July with increased solar and wind energy production
In the last week of July, prices in most European electricity markets fell thanks to increased solar photovoltaic and wind energy production, as well as lower demand in several countries. Spain, Italy, Portugal and France broke daily solar energy generation records for an August month. In the fuels and CO2 markets, futures registered volatility, settling at values close to those of the previous week.
