European energy markets are undergoing a profound transformation, driven by the increase in renewable energy production, market price volatility and the need to move towards increasingly flexible consumption, financing and operational models. It is therefore essential to have an up-to‑date view of market developments in order to identify risks and opportunities and make strategic decisions.

This webinar will analyse recent developments in the main European energy markets and their prospects, with particular attention to the factors influencing market price behaviour, including demand, renewable energy production, fuel prices and CO₂ emission allowance prices.

The current situation and prospects for the PPA market will also be addressed from the perspective of large energy consumers and financial institutions. The role of these agreements as a tool for reducing exposure to volatility, providing stability and predictability in energy costs, and progressing towards decarbonisation targets will be analysed. The main challenges currently hindering the signing of new agreements will also be discussed, together with the need to find structures tailored to the requirements of consumers, producers and financial institutions.

The financing of renewable energy and storage projects will be another of the session’s central themes. The webinar will analyse the criteria currently applied by financial institutions, the challenges posed by new price scenarios, cannibalisation and the growing number of hours with low, zero or negative prices, as well as the opportunities offered by PPA, revenue diversification and new financing structures. The role of long‑term market price forecasts and revenue projections in assessing project viability and structuring project financing will also be addressed.

Finally, the webinar will analyse the prospects for energy storage, focusing particularly on the opportunities it offers large consumers to reduce costs, manage demand, limit their exposure to market price volatility and optimise self‑consumption facilities. The possibilities for hybridisation with solar photovoltaic energy will also be examined, together with the factors determining the economic and financial viability of these projects.
