Renewables set records in Europe in May while electricity market prices rise due to gas prices
In May 2026, monthly average prices increased in most of the main European electricity markets. Higher gas and CO2 prices, together with the drop in wind energy production in several markets, supported this trend. Germany reached an all-time record for solar photovoltaic energy production, while Spain, France, Italy and Portugal recorded solar production highs for a May month and Italy a wind energy production record for that month. Brent futures registered their highest monthly average since August 2022.
Historic photovoltaic energy production records across Europe in the last week of May and falling market prices
In the fourth week of May, the weekly average prices of most of the main European electricity markets fell compared to the previous week and were, for the most part, below €95/MWh. The increase in solar photovoltaic energy production, together with the drop in gas prices, supported this trend, although the fall in wind energy production and demand pushed prices up in France, Italy and the Iberian Peninsula. The main European markets recorded all-time highs for solar photovoltaic energy production, while CO2 futures reached their highest settlement price since February 10.

Our AleaStorage division offers services for energy storage and hybridisation, including revenue calculation, optimisation, management and sizing of energy storage systems.
We offer forecasts and reports for:
Stand-alone battery projects
Hybrid systems of renewables with batteries:
Wind energy and batteries
Solar photovoltaic energy and batteries
Wind, solar photovoltaic energy and batteries
Hybrid self-consumption systems with batteries
Other hybrid systems: hydro, reversible pumping, cogeneration
At AleaSoft Energy Forecasting we produce long-term forecasting reports for all European energy markets. In addition, new complementary services associated with these long-term reports are offered.
Medium-term price forecasting reports for European electricity markets are also available, providing a view of the prospects for the coming months and years, taking into account the most up-to-date economic evolution scenarios.
At AleaSoft Energy Forecasting we have developed Alea Energy DataBase (AleaApp), an online platform that compiles energy market data and macroeconomic data from the main European markets, helping and facilitating the digitalisation of companies. This tool allows data to be visualised and analysed through comparative variable charts, moving average calculation, changes in the time frequency of the series, among others.
On the AleaSoft Energy Forecasting website, the energy market observatories are available, allowing the evolution of the last weeks of the main European electricity markets to be analysed. This tool includes hourly, daily and weekly charts in which the information is updated daily.
