Electrification of demand will be key to sustaining renewable energy growth in Spain
The rapid growth of renewable generation has placed Spain among the most competitive wholesale electricity markets in Europe. However, for this advantage to translate into more investment, greater industrial competitiveness and more stability for renewable projects, it will be necessary to accelerate the electrification of demand, strengthen the grids and pass on the wholesale price signal to the final consumer more efficiently.
Summer begins with a heat wave, increased demand and rising prices in European electricity markets
In the third week of June, prices increased in most European electricity markets, rising above €80/MWh. Higher demand, in a context of higher temperatures, lower wind energy production and the rise in CO2 futures supported this trend. The agreement between the United States and Iran put downward pressure on Brent and TTF gas futures. France and Portugal set all-time photovoltaic energy production records, while Spain and Italy reached records for a June day.
Batteries and hybrid PPA: a competitive advantage for the energy sector
Renewable growth, volatility and the greater frequency of low, zero or negative prices are transforming energy management. The competitive advantage no longer consists only of contracting renewable energy, but of having flexible and optimised energy. Batteries and hybrid PPAs help to reduce risks, improve the profile of the energy supplied and create more competitive products.
