Bankability in volatile markets: forecast quality will be decisive for financing renewables and batteries
Low prices captured by renewables, hours with zero or negative prices, curtailment and growing volatility are changing the criteria for financing renewable projects. Bankability no longer depends solely on technology cost or the financial model. It depends, above all, on whether revenue forecasts reflect how the asset will perform throughout its useful life.
Rising gas and CO2 prices drive up European electricity market prices in the third week of July
In the third week of July, weekly prices rose across the main European electricity markets and exceeded €110/MWh in most of them. Higher gas and CO2 prices, together with lower solar energy production, drove this trend. Lower wind energy production or higher demand also pushed prices up in some markets. Portugal and France set renewable energy production records, while Brent oil and TTF gas futures rebounded amid tensions between the United States and Iran.
Artificial Intelligence: decades turning data into strategic decisions
Artificial Intelligence is often associated today with generative models, conversational assistants and large data centres. Its history, however, runs much deeper. Its conceptual roots trace back to classical logic, and its modern development has spent decades pursuing one essential goal, turning data into useful knowledge for better decision-making.
Storage enters its decisive phase, from permits and spreads to financing
Battery storage is consolidating as one of the main drivers of transformation in the Spanish electricity system. Negative prices in solar hours and rising daily spreads are reinforcing its profitability, but the real turning point will come when projects secure financing and operate optimally across the different electricity markets.
The bottleneck for energy storage in Spain is no longer permitting.
