When forecasting matters: lessons for financing renewable energy and batteries
Fifteen years after producing a long-term forecast for the Iberian electricity market, comparing it with the actual evolution of prices allows a key lesson to be drawn: rigorous forecasts are essential to finance renewables, batteries and electricity assets without inflating expectations or taking on debt levels that the market cannot sustain. This news also coincides with AleaSoft Energy Forecasting's 750th collaboration with El Periódico de la Energía.

The fall in wind energy drives up European electricity market prices in the first week of May
In the first week of May, the weekly average prices of the main European electricity markets increased compared to the previous week and, in most cases, exceeded €100/MWh. The fall in wind energy production across much of Europe, rising demand and higher CO2 prices supported this trend. Spain and France set photovoltaic energy production records for a May day, while TTF gas and Brent futures declined.

April ends with price drops in European electricity markets, photovoltaic records and Brent at its highest level since August 2022
In April 2026, the monthly prices of most of the main European electricity markets fell compared to March and were, for the most part, below €85/MWh, with several markets at their lowest levels in recent months. Lower gas prices, weaker demand and increased solar production supported this trend, in a month that also brought historic photovoltaic energy production records and the highest average Brent futures price since August 2022.
