The drop in wind energy production drives up European electricity market prices in the third week of May

In the third week of May, the weekly average prices of most of the main European electricity markets increased compared to the previous week. The drop in wind energy production and higher demand in some markets supported this trend. The main European markets recorded solar photovoltaic energy production records for a May day, while TTF gas futures reached their highest price since April 8 before declining.

When forecasting matters: lessons for financing renewable energy and batteries

Fifteen years after producing a long-term forecast for the Iberian electricity market, comparing it with the actual evolution of prices allows a key lesson to be drawn: rigorous forecasts are essential to finance renewables, batteries and electricity assets without inflating expectations or taking on debt levels that the market cannot sustain. This news also coincides with AleaSoft Energy Forecasting's 750th collaboration with El Periódico de la Energía.

European electricity market prices fall in the second week of May under pressure from wind and photovoltaic energy

In the second week of May, the weekly average prices of the main European electricity markets fell compared to the previous week and were, for the most part, below €100/MWh. Higher wind and solar energy production supported this trend. Germany recorded its highest wind energy production for a May day in the last four years, while TTF gas futures reached their highest settlement price since April 8.

The fall in wind energy drives up European electricity market prices in the first week of May

In the first week of May, the weekly average prices of the main European electricity markets increased compared to the previous week and, in most cases, exceeded €100/MWh. The fall in wind energy production across much of Europe, rising demand and higher CO2 prices supported this trend. Spain and France set photovoltaic energy production records for a May day, while TTF gas and Brent futures declined.

April ends with price drops in European electricity markets, photovoltaic records and Brent at its highest level since August 2022

In April 2026, the monthly prices of most of the main European electricity markets fell compared to March and were, for the most part, below €85/MWh, with several markets at their lowest levels in recent months. Lower gas prices, weaker demand and increased solar production supported this trend, in a month that also brought historic photovoltaic energy production records and the highest average Brent futures price since August 2022.

All-time daily low in France in the last week of April, with rises in European electricity markets

In the last week of April, the weekly average prices of most of the main European electricity markets increased compared to the previous week, although they remained, for the most part, below €65/MWh. Higher gas prices and lower renewable energy production supported this trend. On May 1, prices fell, with an all-time daily low in the French market and negative prices in Germany and Belgium, while on April 30 the German market reached a photovoltaic energy production record for an April day.
