AleaSoft, March 31, 2021. The explosive increase in installed wind and photovoltaic energy capacity registered since 2019 in the Iberian Peninsula is leading to the continuous generation records breaking with these renewable energy technologies. On the other hand, the escalation in CO2 prices in recent months, which continue the long upward race that they have been leading since 2018, also brought absolute records in this first quarter of 2021.
Renewable energy production records in Mainland Spain
The peninsular wind energy generation registered a generation record in the first quarter of 2021. During the first three months of the year, the wind energy technology generated about 19 000 GWh, 9.7% more than in the last quarter of 2020. These data represent a quarterly generation record since they exceed by 7.5% the data for the first quarter of 2018, which was the current record so far.
On the other hand, the photovoltaic energy generation registered about 3500 GWh in these three months. A figure that represents a new generation record in a first quarter, 35% higher than the generation of the first quarter of 2020, which was the previous record.
Together, the wind and the photovoltaic energy generated more than 22 000 GWh during the first quarter, a record that exceeds by 12% the figures of the last quarter of 2020, the one with the highest wind and photovoltaic energy generation so far.

Constantly monitoring the evolution of all indicators of the energy markets in Europe is key to understand their behaviour and detecting and anticipating changes in trends. Having all the variables that affect the energy markets available allows converting that information into intelligence and opportunities. AleaSoft offers a data service through an online platform that allows all the information and knowledge necessary for the analysis of European markets to be available.
Some of these data can also be monitored daily through the observatories available on the AleaSoft website.
