The New York State electricity market is operated by the New York Independent System Operator (NYISO), which manages the operation of the electricity system and administers the wholesale markets for energy, capacity, and ancillary services. NYISO was created in 1999 as part of the electricity sector restructuring to introduce competition and efficiency into system operation.
