The Czech electricity market is operated by OTE, a.s., the organized market operator and settlement system operator. Since its establishment in 2001, OTE has developed a robust market infrastructure that enables the operation of day-ahead, intraday, and forward markets, as well as the management of guarantees of origin, emission certificates, and system balancing.
Czechia is part of the fully coupled European electricity market, participating in the Single Day-Ahead Coupling (SDAC) and the Single Intraday Coupling (SIDC), which ensures efficient integration with neighboring markets.
The Czech generation mix has historically been dominated by nuclear energy and coal, but it is currently undergoing a transformation towards a cleaner and more diversified matrix.
