The Slovenian electricity market is operated by BSP Southpool, Slovenia’s power exchange, which began operations in 2008 following the liberalization of the energy sector. Since then, BSP has evolved into a modern market fully integrated with the rest of Europe, being part of the European day-ahead market coupling (SDAC) since 2018 and the intraday market coupling (SIDC) since 2019.
The Slovenian generation mix has traditionally been dominated by hydroelectric and nuclear power, complemented by thermal sources. In recent years, Slovenia has begun to promote the integration of renewable energies as part of its commitment to the energy transition.
