Hungary’s electricity market is operated by HUPX (Hungarian Power Exchange), which began operations in 2010 as part of the country’s electricity sector liberalization and modernization. HUPX manages the day-ahead, intraday, and forward markets, and has been fully integrated into the Single Day-Ahead Coupling (SDAC) since 2015 and the Single Intraday Coupling (SIDC) since 2019, allowing for its efficient connection with the main European electricity markets.

The transmission system operator in Hungary is MAVIR, responsible for balancing the electricity system and developing the transmission network.

The Hungarian generation mix includes a strong presence of nuclear energy, alongside natural gas, coal, and a steady growth of renewable energies, especially solar photovoltaic.

In the coming years, the Hungarian electricity system will face significant transformations to align with European climate objectives:

At AleaSoft, we have been provideing services for European electricity markets, including Hungary, for 27 years. We provide forecasts for prices, demand, renewable production, and other key indicators, tailored to the needs of generators, retailers, traders, investors, and system operators.
